Portrait of Jiayi Zhu

Bio

Jiayi Zhu is a music producer and emerging entrepreneur from Nantong, a mid-sized city near Shanghai, China. His musical journey began in primary school inspired by Chinese pop icon Jay Chou and later expanded with a deep love for R&B and hip-hop, especially Drake. He started with saxophone and acoustic guitar before diving into music production in high school, driven by a fascination with how modern music is made.

During high school, Jiayi worked with Berklee professor Jason Stokes as part of a teaching tour organized by his study abroad agency in Shanghai, where he served as an assistant. He also gained media experience through an internship at his local city television station. Jiayi was later accepted into Berklee College of Music with a scholarship, where he is majoring in Professional Music with a focus on music production and music business. Now approaching graduation, he is building a career that blends creativity and business, with aspirations to become a forward-thinking leader in the global music industry.

Career & Academic Plans

Academic Plan

My academic plan is to complete my studies at Berklee with a strong focus on both music performance and music business. I want to continue developing my skills in theory, composition, and production while also strengthening my knowledge of entrepreneurship and independent career management.

Career Plan

My career plan is two-fold: first, to build my identity as an independent musician through original projects, collaborations, and performances; second, to launch and grow my overseas study agency Plus One, which will help students—especially those interested in music—find affordable, high-quality opportunities abroad. By combining what I’ve learned at Berklee with my own international experiences, I plan to create a career that balances artistry, education, and entrepreneurship.
